The Unboxing

Vivo Y35 Box

The Design

The first thing that you will notice with the looks of the vivo Y35 is its trendy looks, where it will definitely match your style and be fashionable with it. The back of the phone is made of reflective plastic with a matte finish. The Y35 comes in two colors: we have the Dawn Gold and the elegant Agate Black.

The vivo Y35 has a boxed body shape that makes holding the phone much easier. As for the buttons and port, we have the volume rocker and a power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor on the right side. On the bottom part, you will find the audio jack, microphone hole, a USB Type-C Port, and a speaker grill. Also, the SIM tray slot is located on the upper part where it can accommodate two nano sim cards and a MicroSD card for storage expansion.

The Sound and Display

Img 1232 2

The vivo Y35 has a 6.58-inches FHD+ LCD IPS 90Hz display with a teardrop-style camera on it. We enjoyed watching and browsing different videos and social media contents thanks to its size. The vivo Y35 supports both 90Hz and 60Hz refresh rates, with the the default setting already set to to auto-switch, meaning the system will decide what appropriate screen refresh rate can be selected automatically. You can also force it to stick on either a 90Hz or 60Hz refresh rate. With regards to checking the quality of the display, it is in the ballpark of the IPS display having not as many vivid colors of the AMOLED displays but it is fine for it.

Moving on with its speaker, the vivo V25 5G uses only a downward-firing speaker, which is somehow a downgrade since many smartphones are now releasing dual-firing speakers. But even if that’s the case, its speaker still produces loud and clear audio.

The Performance

The vivo Y35 uses a Snapdragon 680 processor paired with 8GB of RAM plus 8GB of extended storage bumping the total RAM size of the phone to 16GB. Thanks to this huge increase of RAM, the vivo Y35 did not encounter problems with opening apps simultaneously. Out of the gate, you will also not be limited to its storage capacity because vivo is generously giving us 256GB for its default configuration. Here are some benchmark scores of the vivo Y35.

Using the vivo Y35 is smooth and fast for a typical workload of a phone. It uses FunTouch OS 12 (Android 12-based system) which has some bloatware pre-installed.

As for its gaming performance, you will not be having a problem when playing low-demanding games like Mobile Legends on high graphics with high refresh rate settings. However, while playing high-demand games like Genshin Impact, you will expect some hiccups with this phone. You can only play Genshin Impact in the lowest setting and will still encounter possible occurrences of fps drops. And as for the thermals, the Y35 was able to manage the heat effectively despite of our long playing hours.

The biometrics and security of the vivo Y35 uses two types: Fingerprint sensor, and Face Unlock. Both of them are responsive and we didn’t encounter any problems while using it.

The Camera

Img 1204

The vivo Y35 camera configuration in the rear is 50 Megapixels on its main shooter, with a 2 Megapixels Macro and 2 Megapixels dedicated bokeh. It doesn’t have an ultrawide sensor so if you are a heavy user of an ultrawide camera, you might not find this phone suitable for you. For the front camera, it uses 16 Megapixels.

The camera app of the vivo Y35 brings us many options to tweak our picture out of the box – from its filter option, up to its lighting effect.  And that is for sure will be quite enough to make you save time of not opening other camera apps for it. For the camera features, we have  HDR option, double exposure, super macro, portrait, night mode, live photo, slo-mo, time-lapse, document picture, and pro mode.

Pictures looked great under ideal lighting conditions, albeit some minimal issues we have experienced. At times, you will experience off-color, and blurriness. For places where there is a bright and then dark contrast in the picture, it makes both ends balanced or it will increase its contrast where this can ruin the image due. Talking about its special feature, the Super Night Camera, all I can say is that, it is acceptable. It makes the scene much brighter and produces not so grainy pictures.

Checking for its selfie shooter, the quality it produces is acceptable too. It also has passable bokeh effect quality, and its facial filter is average.

For the video capability of the vivo Y35. Its rear camera shoots at 720p and 1080p at 60 fps and its selfie camera shoots only at 720p and 1080p at 30 fps. It has a standard stabilization option that uses only EIS.

The Battery

The vivo Y35 has a 5,000mAh battery which is common to see nowadays. With a normal 12 hours of use of the Y35, we left with a 30% battery life – we did some browsing the web, scrolling social media, taking some pictures and playing games. We also ran a battery test with it and with a 50% brightness of the phone we got 17 hours and 55 mins that stand out from other phones in the market.

Aside from that, we got a 44W fast charger included in the package. Making it really quick as a flash for our battery charging.

vivo Y35 Verdict

For the price of PHP 14,999, the vivo Y35 is in the range of a decent smartphone to consider if you are looking for an overall smartphone. The specs of the phone are balanced overall and the design is great which makes you have a flashy look for a smartphone design.

The vivo Y35 is available in Shopee, and Lazada.
